It’s been so long since Auden slept at night. Ever since her parents’ divorce—or since the fighting started. Now she has the chance to spend a carefree summer with her dad and his new family in the charming beach town where they live.

A job in a clothes boutique introduces Auden to the world of girls: their talk, their friendship, their crushes. She missed out on all that, too busy being the perfect daughter to her demanding mother. Then she meets Eli, an intriguing loner and a fellow insomniac who becomes her guide to the nocturnal world of the town. Together they embark on parallel quests: for Auden, to experience the carefree teenage life she’s been denied; for Eli, to come to terms with the guilt he feels for the death of a friend.

In her signature pitch-perfect style, Sarah Dessen explores the hearts of two lonely people learning to connect.

Review
Along for the Ride was a book all about change.  It's about how life doesn't stay stagnant, that people can change and bring surprises along the way.  It's about growing up and looking at life with new eyes.  You see this clearly when Auden looks at her father with new eyes over the summer.  Her father isn't what maybe she thought he was and her mother isn't either.

Auden has a lot of growing up to do.  I really liked this book.  It wasn't over the top or crazy.  It was about real issues and how people perceive each other.  Auden goes from a little girl to a new level of maturity as she approaches life from a different angle and realizes that not everyone is what she thinks they are.  I thought this was a good message to deliver, and not in the preachy, harpy tone that others might deliver.

For those seeking action and major conflict of epic proportions, this is not the book for you.  However, if you want read about a girl that comes into her own as a young woman and sees the world for the first time, this is for you.

XOXO
